Tour guides are key facilitators and in direct contact with both tourists and hosts. This seminar is aimed at providing them with additional qualifications in order to better accommodate the concept of sustainability in practice and the tourist demand to meet local people as equals. The seminar imparts the basics of sustainability, of sustainable tourism development as well as methodological skills and specialised knowledge of the socio-cultural impacts of tourism on local communities as an example of an issue of relevance for sustainability. The six-day seminar teaches tangible methodologies and techniques that tour guides can use to contribute to sustainable development in tourist destinations by fulfilling their roles in the areas of experience management, resource management, and local economic development.
